Tasting Notes

Rockmelon, peach stone and white rose petal aromatics, leads to a strong textural driven mouthfeel showing a delicate mineral flow with great depth and persistence.

About the Wine

About the wine

Featuring the Proprietor’s Grandfather, S.E.D Neill – Wine Merchant, on the label, Picnic Riesling is our perennial favourite and a wonderful introduction to the pleasure of Central Otago Riesling. We think it is just as much a dinner wine as a luncheon – equally enjoyable at home outdoors, as at the Captain’s Table.

Vineyard Management:

Own roots – cane cuttings from Felton Road. Single cane, one bunch per shoot, 5500 vines per hectare. Shoot and lateral thinned, and leaf plucked. Hand harvested on the 15th April 2015.

Vintage Comments

A cool spring in October and into November was followed by warm dry weather over December and a particularly hot and dry January. Flowering was finished by the end of December. Vigour was low and the vines were only green thinned and shoulders removed in the same pass. Wide open bunches meant very little disease pressure was experienced and we hand harvested on the 15th April 2015.

4 Stars
Estate-grown in the Red Banks Vineyard, at Earnscleugh, near Alexandra, the 2015 vintage is an off-dry style. Lemon-scented, it is a medium-bodied, citrusy, appley wine, fresh, finely balanced and full-flavoured
