The jovial chap with a pipe is Sidney Neill, importer of French wines (among other things) enjoying a picnic at Karitane Beach, Otago circa 1919.
Once again our perennial favourite – the wine to enjoy everyday and a wonderful introduction to the pleasure of Central Otago Pinot Noir. With all fruit sourced from Two Paddock’s own vineyards, Picnic Pinot Noir is made in a diminutive style aimed to reflect the characters that Central Otago Pinot does so very well – black and red cherry fruit, spice and a generosity that keeps you reaching for the next sip.
Vintage Comment:
A mild winter, soils with high moisture and an unseasonably hot dry spring were catalysts for a solid start to the growing season experienced in Central Otago. Flowering had finished in some vineyards before summer even began. Fruit set was correspondingly excellent across all sub- regions, promoting high berry numbers and the likelihood of tight bunches. These idyllic conditions continued through until mid December and then some rain and cooler temperatures were experienced over the Christmas period. The remainder of summer saw warmer weather with the first signs of veraison at the end of January and most of the regions vineyards with well-coloured fruit come the first week of February. A stable autumn gave us some scope to pick at our leisure, which allowed us to fashion wines of high lifted fruit aromatics and strong mineral drive. Winemakers Notes:
Redcurrant, bramble, wildflower and spice aromatics followed by a rich warmly textured wine. Nice tension flow and persistence.
