Getting down with the dirt

It’s winter time, and a lot of different jobs take precedence. Among them the wild world of COMPOST.

We believe of course in the virtuous circle in working with the land – we return with interest to the soil what we take. And the whole farm runs on this holistic principle.

SO, here the boys are working with one of our piles of cow poo, grapeskins, wood and leaf mulch, hay baleage and all the other ingredients that make for a rich and healthy compost, and thence the healthiest of vines. We make literally heaps of it.

Mike turns the compost with the tractor, Simon is hosing down expectations, Old Tom is mixing the poo potion before adding to the mix.  And the cows, having made their contribution, idly look on. The sheep Sweater, is in her normal panic mode. The boss is in Sydney. But took these shots before getting out of the line of fire.
