Saffron

Two Paddocks Lavender Honey

We grow Saffron from corms, originally developed by Crop and Food at Redbank in the 1980’s. It is a superb product, but unfortunately disastrously non – commercial.

We have discovered over the years that the only way to grow Saffron and make money is to employ your ancient grandmothers at 10 cents an hour to perform the painstaking business of plucking the stamens from the crocus flowers. We are sadly short of exploitable grandmothers.

Saffron remains therefore one of our romantic but entirely impractical crops.

Watch this space – C.E.O Watanabe may have a brainwave some time.
